Life expenses

Hi, my name is Katlyn and to be honest with you this is extremely embarrassing for me to do but I don’t really know what else to do. My family and I have fallen into hard times. We are a family of 4. We have two amazing little girls.

Both our little girls have health conditions our first was born with Situs Inversus (all organs are flipped onto the opposite side of the body) and our second was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. (HLHS- Born with half a heart)

Back in May we were blessed with our second beautiful baby girl. But our baby was born with a heart condition called HLHS. Because of her heart condition she has to undergo 3 heart surgeries. And would have to have certain vitals checked throughout the day. (Oxygen, heart rate, & weight)

After she was born I was only able to see her for a moment and she was rushed away to be evaluated by cardiology. She had surgery on day 2 of life. During our hospital her dad and I stayed at the hospital with her the whole time. So we missed a lot of work this put us a bit behind on bills. Then during our stay the doctor’s said our daughter should not go to daycare because of all the germs and sickness that get passed around. RSV alone is already so hard on a healthy baby but it is even worse on a heart warrior.

So this meant we will now become a one income family. I informed my employer that I can no longer work for them. This put us even further behind.

Then our baby girl had some issues with gaining weight so she was put on a “failure to thrive” formula which has a higher calorie count. This formula cost $1,600 a month in total. Our hospital did put us on wic but it only covers a portion of the formula. So money got even tighter.

We have now almost lost our home a few times. And one of our vehicles ended up getting repossessed. We were able to get the vehicle out the next day but it took all of our money to do so. Which meant we were late on the mortgage… again. At this point I decided to get a part time job once he gets home from work so I’m only able to work after 6pm and I also needed a job that will understand that I will need to miss work come spring when my baby goes in for her second heart surgery. This made it really hard to find a job but I ended up getting a cashiering job at a nearby grocery store. This is only bringing in $60 a week MAX.

Then, 2 weeks ago, my heart baby’s oxygen was reading lower than it should be so I took her in and she tested positive for RSV. She was immediately put on oxygen and admitted to the hospital. She stayed a total of 10 days. I stayed with her the whole time which meant missing work. Her dad on the other had, didn’t have an option to miss work. We were already behind so much on bills. So he worked his 10 hour days while his baby girl was on oxygen in the hospital.

We got home from the hospital this past Tuesday, December 5th, and her dad just go laid off this Thursday, December 7th. With no real end date to the layoff.

He works construction as a union operator so he put his card in the hall for the first time ever since being in the union (5 years). And now it’s like a waiting game. We are so far behind on every bill we are starting to fear the worst.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.
