Hi to all!
I am Kevin, a friend of the young man who's story I am about to share with you.
Grant is 35 years old. He asked me if he could do some work with me in his spare time, as he is extremely passionate about working with his hands and being creative. His full time job is with BP UK at one of their fuel stations in Four Marks Hants. On the 8th of December this year, Grant was in my workshop, helping me get a project completed. At 12h10 Grant walked up to me and was trying to say something to me which started sounding very garbled. I thought he was being funny because he jokes around a lot. A long story short, is Grant was busy having a stroke whilst talking to me. I tried to get him to sit down and he collapsed into my arms (very luckyto be right at his side). I called 999 immediately as I knew he was having a stroke. When the call handler couldn't give me an ETA for the ambulance, I called the manager, Andy Basson, who runs Newhouse Farm where my workshop is. Without him I would not have been able to get Grant moved at all! We bundled Grant into my van and I managed to get him to A&E Winchester. He was sent to Wessex Neurological immediately and underwent a procedure to remove a huge clot from the right side of his brain.
The next morning there was only a "vegetable" lying in the ward, paralysed completely on the left side with no speech or recognition.
The very next day, I walked into the ward and he looked up at me and said "Hi Kev! How's it going?" Needless to say, I just broke down with tears of relief.
So! Realising that things were going to be extremely difficult at home for Michelle (his missus) and 6 year old Harry, and 10 year old George, I started doing some enquiries, only to find out that BP do not have a system that aids an employee in a situation like this. No work, no pay! DISGUSTING from a company worth billions.
I am reaching out to my fellow beings to ask for any assistance financial, or otherwise, to help this beautiful little family make it through the next 6 months while Grant is put through his rehab. He is the main breadwinner in the family, with Michelle still in training as a diabetic nurse. I am helping the family as much as possible but I am not a rich person.
I hope this message resonates with you all. I am not going to beg, but any help from out there would be a blessing!
I have set a target of 30K , as he has rehab for at least 6 months. This will cover their rent plus additional medical he will need as the system is very limited in that area. Was also told by Doc yesterday when I fetched him, that he's not allowed to drive for a whole year. This means getting their 2 little boys to school and back as well..
Hope its going to be enough...
