We are a local community group based in Murwillumbah NSW.
The Tweed Shire communities have not been adequately consulted about the closure of the rail corridor and the removal of our railway tracks to construct a Bike Trail.
The neighbouring Byron Shire Council have demonstrated that the railway infrastructure is in good condition via their independent engineering condition report as part of their Dual Use Investigation. It is important that we save the railway tracks in The Tweed, allowing for dual use of the Byron Bay to Murwillumbah section of the line for Light Rail combined with the Bike Trail.
It is not only achievable to develop dual use but it is essential to the livability of our region. With rail being tabled to extend from Coolangatta Airport to Tweed Heads and Byron Shire bringing light rail to Yelgun at our border to the South, how foolish are we going to look if we are the Shire in the middle who ripped up the connecting tracks?
We are a hard working team of volunteers aiming to effect change within local government to LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE! The vast majority of people we speak to say they support seeing environmentally sustainable, community and tourism, light rail transport developed on our historic railway line.
We appreciate all donations of any size that go toward our basic office costs, technology, advertising and legal expenses.
OF COURSE These donations are not for developing a Light Rail Project :-) We are talking to key investors about that, keep an eye on our website for exciting [email redacted]anridetogether.com
