Student Nurse Volunteering in Tanzania
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Elaine Murphy. I am a student nurse heading to Tanzania for the month of July with the support of the organisation Plan My Gap Year (PMGY). I will be volunteering in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics and in the community. I’m hoping to raise money to help with the funding of healthcare facilities and resources while I’m over there.
Tanzania, like many African countries, faces a severe shortage of healthcare workers as well as low wages, challenging working conditions and limited training programs. There are also growing demands of HIV/AIDS treatment leading to a decline in health standards that leaves Tanzania trailing behind many other developing countries.
As a volunteer I will gain first-hand insight into the country’s healthcare system. I will gain experience in a wide range of departments including general medical, diabetes clinics, obstetrics and gynaecology, maternity, pharmacy, paediatrics, surgery, exposure to tropical diseases and much more.
I have already paid for my flights, accommodation and immunisations etc so all money raised will be going directly to those in need.
I would really appreciate any donation, big or small or even just sharing this link with friends or family members would be perfect.
I plan on hosting a coffee morning in Ground and Co in Salthill before the end of June. Date TBC :))
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I’m sure this will be an eye opening experience and I hope I can make a positive, meaningful impact during my time in Tanzania while gaining invaluable insight and knowledge .
All my love and thanks
Elaine :))
