Hi everyone! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my funding page. My name is Abby Lindig and I am currently an undergrad at Rice University, studying to receive a degree in Vocal Performance. My life has always been split down the middle between my love for music and my love for animals and conservation.
Volunteering is an important part of my life. I spent last summer in Namibia, Africa, working with the Elephant Human Relations Aid. The first half of my time there, I did construction on farms that had been damaged by curious elephants. The second half, we tracked elephants to observe behavior, population, and movement patterns. This was an incredibly rewarding experience and really kickstarted my desire to possibly pursue a career in conservation.
Throughout the year I volunteer at The Houston Zoo doing an array of tasks, everything from administrative support to working directly with the zoo's animals. This position gives me many opportunities to sit in on lectures about wildlife conservation from big names around the world. It also allows me to absorb information about animal care and maintenance.
This summer, I would like to return to Namibia to volunteer at the Namibia Wildlife Sanctuary. Their main focus is to provide refuge for orphaned or injured wildlife, as well as animals that have been deemed "too curious" by local farmers and are therefore in danger living in those areas. This program focuses mostly on big cats (mainly cheetahs and lions) and monkeys.
The money donated would help fund my trip and go directly to the Namibia Wildlife Sanctuary. All other expenses (i.e. plane tickets, or anything not going to the NWS) will not be paid for by this donation. No donation is too large or too small! Thank you so much for your time and any donation made!
