My name is Emily Moore and I'm a recent graduate from NYU's Silver School where I received my Masters degree in Social Work. Starting in September, I will be traveling abroad to countries all over the world including Vietnam, France, Rwanda, and Ecuador. One of my greatest desires is to use this opportunity to continue practicing social work by volunteering with different communities in the countries I travel to.
Every country has communities in need and I feel that as a social worker, it is my duty to help when and where I can. Whether this means playing with children, providing one-on-one counseling, or assisting in construction, farming, or healthcare, I want to be a part of uplifting any community.
Unfortunately, graduate school is no cheap endeavor(!) and I do not have the sufficient funds to pay for travel expenses, lodging and any costs to volunteer in each country. Additionally, I would love to be able to provide any supplies that are lacking in the community I'm working with. Items such as t-shirts, jackets, pencils and notebooks among many others can be extremely beneficial for a community that has very little.
I will be leaving the US in early September but would appreciate any kind of donation at any time throughout my trip. Doing this volunteer work is extraordinarily meaningful to me as I see how many communities in so many countries are struggling with very few resources. Every day in the news I read about another horrifying event leaving people stranded, lost, and unsure of where to turn. If I can do something to bring even a small amount of joy to a community, that's what I want to do.
Anything that you are able contribute will be something I appreciate more than you know. For those of you who are interested in where your money is going, I will be creating both a blog and an Instagram logging the work I do and the people I work with.
