Volunteering to treat street dogs and cats of Sri Lanka
Donation protected
Hello! Thanks for stopping by to read this. I’m Alice and I have been working as a vet in the UK for 7 years and I have been planning a way of putting my skills to use for the less fortunate animals.
I am taking a 4 month sabbatical from work starting the end of February 2026 and spending 3 of those months volunteering with an amazing charity called WeCare Sri Lanka - https://wecareworldwide.org.uk
Here I will be helping with their capture, neuter, vaccinate, release programme which does amazing work to help reduce the stray population in Sri Lanka and reduce the transmission of Rabies which is a deadly and devastating disease to both the human communities and animal populations. I will also be helping in their hospital where they treat street dogs and cats as well as owned pets with wounds, catastrophic injuries, maggot infestations, infections and many more issues.
I have made the decision to stop working for 4 months to help these animals as well as the local community and I’m hoping to fundraiser some money to help me go! The flights and accommodation alone are around £2500 so I would love if you could support me or even follow WeCare on their social media pages to support them.
For this fundraiser I will be walking, cycling (indoors - sadly I don’t have a bike), kayaking and likely hobbling the width of Sri Lanka - 224km - in 1 month.
Thank you so much for reading!
