Volunteering to Create Impact in Majur, Croatia

Hi! My name is Teresa and I am participating in a volunteering project to Majur, Croatia for one week in June.

The village of Majur and its surrounding areas were severely impacted by the Yugoslavian War in the 1990s. Most of the villagers lost loved ones during the conflict, as many of the men of the village have died or disappeared, leaving the community with a sense of hopelessness and a lack of vision for the future. Many homes and farms remain abandoned and in ruins. A significant generation gap exists, with elderly relatives caring for young children while their parents spend most of their time working in the capital, Zagreb.

The village I will volunteer in needs to be rebuilt. Myself, ten other college students and our leaders will be working with the mayor of the town to paint structures, assist with repairs, clean and other manual jobs.

With the support of our group in Ireland, we aim to collaborate with the villagers to inspire hope and create a brighter future for the people of Majur.

All donations will be used for project costs: travel to and within Croatia, food and work materials.
