Volunteering in Tanzania June 2025
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Emily Curran, and I’m a 2nd year midwifery student in the University of Galway. In June 2025, I will be travelling to Tanzania alongside three other of my fellow midwifery students to volunteer for four weeks at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Arusha and Simanjiro Health Centre.
This incredible opportunity is part of my elective module titled "Global Health". This module examines determinants of health through an international lens and how the influence of environment, culture, economics, and social development have on health inequalities.
During our time in Tanzania, we will be working closely with local healthcare providers, gaining nursing experience medically and surgically. As well as midwifery experience in antenatal, labour and postnatal in hospital settings and outpatient clinics.
This experience will enhance my understanding and skills of midwifery on a global scale, and how healthcare is delivered in a different cultural and social context which will shape my future as a midwife.
This is a self funded trip which is in partnership with Athenry Simanjiro Partnership. I will be donating to this charity which this fundraising will go towards resources in the medical sites in Simanjiro.
Any donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much,
Emily
