Volunteer Work in Saltillo, Mexico

Friends and Family,

There is great need all around the world. While looking for an opportunity to serve this winter, Suzanne and I came across a need in Saltillo, Mexico. Saltillo is a large city of about 1 million people and is the capital of the northeastern Mexico state of Coahuila.

We will be going to serve to two weeks, February 10-24, and we want you to be a part of it. Originally, we were planning to do mostly construction and maintenance work, but the organization we are working with, Centro para la Plantación de Iglesias, has shifted our scope a little. While we will still be doing some physical work (hanging doors, painting, etc.), we will mostly be teaching conversational English. We will be teaching at several different venues including churches, an addiction recovery center, and at some places in the downtown area.

Rather than the funds going through CPI, we are responsible to cover all of our own expenses such as airfare, housing, and food. The cost is going to be about $3500 for the two of us for the two weeks. We have found an affordable AirBnB that looks like it will be great location to work from. While CPI will be helping with some transportation, we will be relying primarily on taxis. Another benefit of the AirBnB is that rather than eating out, we will be able to prepare most of our meals ourselves and save money.
