Volunteer trip to support Friends of Rwandan Rugby

At the end of May I will be a part of a group of six players and coaches from Shelford and Cambridge Rugby clubs travelling to Rwanda. The charity, Friends of Rwandan Rugby, uses rugby as a tool to heal the societal wounds from the 1994 genocide, using the values of rugby to promote reconciliation, health and well-being for children and young adults. We will be assisting this cause by training the teaches, coaches, referees and Rugby Development Officers as they continue to the lead the growth of grassroot rugby to the nation's children.

Anyone who knows me well will know Sport For Development and the potential of sport as a transformative tool is something I could talk for hours about. Charities such as Friends of Rwandan Rugby take things as simple as rugby balls and old equipment, and use them to give children and communities the chance to be nurtured and develop. Who are Friends of Rwandan Rugby (FoRR)?

A small and innovative charity, Friends of Rwandan Rugby teaches rugby to children and young adults across the country. They aim to promote reconciliation, health, and well-being by using the values of rugby to build trust, friendships and foster shared experiences on the field. Following the 1994 genocide, the social wounds left by conflict and upheaval continue to impact the country as it develops and the communities within.

Any money the charity makes is put towards equipment and supporting the growth of grassroot participation to reach more children across the nation. As part of the trip, we will also be taking old kit, balls, and equipment so please let me know if you have anything you no longer need!
