Volunteer Teaching in Ethiopia
Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family!
Many of you already know it has been a life long dream of mine to travel to Africa, learn about the culture there and get to apply my teaching skills where they are greatly needed.
After years of dreaming about this, I have decided to take the plunge. This summer, I will spend one month in Ethiopia volunteering my time as a teacher through Vincentian Lay Missionaries.
You can read more about VLM here:
http://vlmusa.org
I will spend mornings teaching English to 4th-8th grade students at Ghebre Michael Catholic School. In the afternoons I will teach English to adult women, train current teachers in English instruction and also help write grants for the school.
I am raising money to help supplement the cost of airfare. Any size donation is greatly appreciated!
I believe wholeheartedly that education has the power to change society by shaping the minds of future generations: it can afford opportunity even where there is abject poverty, it can influence the direction of business, art, science and technology. I believe education very powerfully helps mold the fabric of society. It is for this reason that I feel such a powerful charge to volunteer through VLM. I hope, if even in a small way, to impact positive change with my mortal hands .
I also hope to learn a great deal from living in Ethiopia and be able to return with an enhanced perspective that will better inform and inspire my work as an English teacher in East Harlem.
Thank you so much for your support!
