Volunteer Refugee Assistance in Poland
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Bo Lysyj, and I am heading out to Poland for two weeks to help manage and transport Ukrainian refugees to their next safe location.
My motivation to help comes from my family history- my parents were refugees during WW2, fleeing west when the Soviet Union was overrun. I'm honored to be able to help this new generation of families in their search for refuge.
This will be my second trip to Poland to assist. Shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, I arrived at Warsaw Central Station and found my place with volunteers at the transport desk. I rented a passenger van to help travelers reach their next safe place. Most of the rides were local- to an embassy to process paperwork, to a hostel, private residence, shelter, a hospital or clinic for treatment, or back to the train station for further travel.
Sometimes special situations prevented subsidized refugee travel assistance (free travel)- the lack of a biometric passport, timing, accompanying pets that cannot travel on a bus, or remote destinations. If I can purchase passage for the traveler, I will. If that is not possible, I will drive them.
Your donations will be spent on renting a passenger van, fuel, and associated travel expenses ie overnight accomodation if the trip requires it.
