I have the opportunity to do two weeks elective placement in Ghana, and I am raising money towards funding things like my visa, fee’s, Insurance, flights and much needed equipment for the midwives in Takoradi.
Please read my story below ☺️
Hello, my name is Gemma and I am a student Midwife currently studying here in the UK.
I am now in my final year of midwifery training and if I can raise enough funds then I have a very rare opportunity to go abroad and do 2 weeks of midwifery training in Takoradi Ghana within an authentic Ghanaian Maternity clinic that covers everything from, antenatal postpartum and postnatal care.
This is something I had set as a goal when I finally perused my career to be a midwife. However, with Covid I was never sure it would be possible and feel very grateful to have this once in a lifetime opportunity.
I will be working under the direct supervision of the midwives there, getting hands-on experience in an overseas setting, which is one of the most beneficial ways I can develop as a healthcare professional and help give me insight for my own practice.
Having this opportunity to work alongside health care professionals in a different country will allow me to experience a new culture, perspective and style of care which I hope will enhance my own skills and knowledge and aid in others learning along the way. I will even learn some ‘Ferne’ whilst there and in return teach some locals a bit of English.
The funds collected will go towards the cost of getting there, my insurance, visa, fee’s etc and some much needed equipment for the midwives in Ghana. In return for any funds/support I receive, I will be documenting my experience whilst being out there undertaking this amazing opportunity and hope to bring a wealth of knowledge back to the Uk so I can share this with my colleagues and friends.
I know the world is a difficult place right now in lots of ways, especially financially so I appreciate any support and contributions you are able to make.
