We are redistributing ally funds gained through privileges directly to long term Black Oakland residents. This initiative is Black and ally led. Recipients are identified by a network of Black led organizations such as the East Oakland Collective and others.
We've already raised nearly $50k and will keep going! We have distributed/are redistributing $300/month for twelve months to 18 months to Black Oakland residents of all income levels.
This is a Voluntary Privilege Tax and we encourage you to reflect on any funds you may receive as a result of your privileges such as the sale of a home, company stock options, stable housing and income, paid time off, credit card point perks, a bonus, or the like.
Reparations is a call to action the Black community has been reviving for decades. The goal of this work is to make progress on these intentions NOW while as a country, we continue to strategize an approach. We don’t want to wait for the perfect solution, we want to make an impact in people’s lives today.
