Hi, I’m Max Towers, and I’m running the Wellington marathon to raise money for Breast Cancer Now in support of an incredible woman, my auntie Jackie (a.k.a Auntie Jacks / AJ).
Jackie was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 at just 46. As a single mother, she juggled a demanding career while raising her two sons, Lewis and Harrison. She underwent a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, losing her hair but never her determination. Just when she thought she had beaten it, the cancer returned—this time in her bones. Despite the devastating news, she fought on.
Now, my Auntie Jacks is facing her toughest challenge yet. The cancer has returned for a third time, spreading to her cervix in an incredibly rare and cruel twist. She has endured countless surgeries, broken femurs caused by medication side effects, and severe lymphoedema in her arm, which requires constant treatment. But despite everything, AJ remains determined to keep fighting, not just for herself but for her sons and everyone who loves her.
Throughout her journey, she has been supported by amazing medical professionals, including her oncologist, Dr. Adrian Moss, and her surgeon, Mr. Riccardo Bonomi. Thanks to advances in treatment, she has just started a new breast cancer drug, offering some hope—but she still has a long road ahead.
AJ’s story is one of resilience, love, and the will to keep going. Cancer doesn’t just affect one person—it impacts entire families. That’s why I’m running this marathon. Every step I take is for AJ and for everyone facing this brutal disease. Every pound raised goes towards research, treatment, and support for those battling breast cancer.
Please consider donating. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s do this for AJ and for everyone who refuses to give up the fight.
