My name is Matthew Yao, Founder of The Victoria Jie Yang Foundation, launched in honour of my late mother, a woman who carried a deep heart for hope and healing for the sick, the poor, and the lost.
I’m currently on the ground in Pakistan, freeing families trapped in generational slavery, building schools, setting up women's skill development programs and funding medical centres.
On Wednesday, 14 May 2025, we freed our first family, whom we’ve named Family #1: Family Victoria, in Mum’s honour.
They had been enslaved for over four generations, forced to make bricks under a rigged, ever-growing debt.
The price of their freedom:
250,000 PKR (~$1,380 AUD) — a number they could never repay.
I met with the brick kiln owner.
Negotiated their release.
Paid the debt in full.
And walked the family out free.
Today, their story has changed forever:
Four young children, aged 3 months to 5 years, now have a future.
They’ll grow up healthy.
They’ll go to school.
They’ll live beyond 40.
They are no longer slaves.
I started this Foundation to carry on what my mum never had the chance to finish, a mission to bring hope and healing to Asia, China, and the developing world.
We’ve already identified 9 more families ready to be freed this week.
Each one needs $1,200–$1,500 AUD to cover:
- Debt buyout
- 1 month of relocation food, shelter, and medical support
I’m also funding:
- Health: A Healing Centre
- Education: A Village School
- Women: A Women’s Technical School
This is more than rescue.
This is rebuilding a future.

The Victoria Jie Yang Foundation was registered as a Charitable Trust on Mother's Day 11 May 2025, has secured an Australian Business Number (ABN), and is currently pending registration with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
All donations received will be personally overseen by me and directed solely toward mission execution, freeing families and building a future.
