On June 3, my husband and I, after 13 years together, traveled to Mexico for his visa appointment after waiting 9 years. We thought the process was cut and dry. Simple. He had no criminal background. We had been together over 13 years. We had 4 children he raised that I had from a previous relationship. He obeyed the law and just worked hard. His lawyer said the case should have no hiccups. My youngest daughter, whom he has raised since she was 3 months old, took the long trip with us, excited her papi would finally be legal and we wouldn’t have to worry about him being deported by ICE anymore.
On his final interview on June 16, he was denied his visa due to the fact they didn’t like “the way my birth certificate looked.” We were immediately devastated. All of our ducks were in a row, he has no criminal record, and we spent thousands on legal fees. I was forced to leave my husband in Mexico and make the 21-hour trip home alone to Atlanta without him. Our finances depleted. Our children without the only father they’ve ever known. Although I work, he was the main breadwinner. I have exhausted all credit cards and money we had saved.
We are still going to fight this legal unjust decision, but I’m unable to keep a roof over my children’s heads along with bills, basic necessities, and more legal fees. At this time, any donations will help with housing, necessities, and legal fees to get my husband home. Thank you, and we ask that you pray for our family. Anyone that knows my husband knows what an amazing, hardworking, and kind person he is. He didn’t deserve this after just losing both his parents last year. It’s been blow after blow this year. I know my God will prevail, but my children and I are in desperate need of help until we can get him home.
