Inspired by the book "Shifting: The Double Lives of Black Women in America" by Kumea Shorter-Gooden & Charisse Jones, the 6 of us will be (virtually, so that we're nice and distanced) talking about our experiences with shifting in the coffee industry as customer service workers. In this context, shifting refers to the pressure that many Black women feel to compromise their true selves as they navigate America's racial and gender prejudices.
But that's Part II of this event. Part I will be a coffee tasting! The funds from this GoFundMe will be used to purchase coffee from a Black-owned business for each member of this coffee session. If the goal is met, we'll purchase from Eight50 Coffee (eight50coffee.com), a Canadian-based business. If we reach $130, coffee will be purchased from another Black supplier from within the States. If our goal is surpassed by enough, we'll support and buy coffee from TWO black-owned businesses!
Wherever we end up getting our coffee from, it'll be confirmed here by the end of the campaign so that you as a viewer will have time to purchase the coffee as well if you'd like, and join us live on YouTube to share your thoughts on your brew!
