Viola's Home Construction
Donation protected
My name is Nicole and I am one of sixteen from First Baptist Orlando that was blessed to have had the opportunity to go to Haiti for a one week mission trip this past summer. God is working in many areas of Haiti, the organization Mission of Hope among them. It was incredible to witness firsthand the way in which the people of Haiti hold dear to God and their community. Through outreach in the village of Titanyen, we were able to build relationships with many of the families who welcomed us. I would love to share one family's story in particular that had a lasting impact.
One of the families we spoke with on the very first day was a mother by the name of Viola. She lived in a small house with her five children. The oldest fifteen-years-old and the youngest was one. When we walked by to talk with her and the youngest was sprawled out asleep on her lap. She smiled when asked about how the older children help take care of and entertain the younger ones. She spoke joyfully of one of her children who loves to paint.

Viola attends church in Titanyen with the children and talked about her relationship with Christ. She didn’t have a job and there was no man living with them helping to support her and the children. When asked if she had any extended family nearby in Titanyen she said no. Viola’s prayer request was for her family and for the house they are trying to build.
Next door to the small house they were currently living in was the beginnings of a bigger foundation for a home that she hopes to be able to live in one day with her children.

This new home, once complete, would provide them with more living space. The foundation is around three feet tall with rebar in each of the four corners. She told us how they started building it in 2001. It has taken Viola and her family fifteen years to build about three feet of foundation. This broke my heart.
Viola is one story among many that we heard, however, hers is one that broke my heart. For fifteen years she has been slowly adding on to the foundation. I could only imagine how many more years it would be before her and her children would be able to live in their new home. How many of her children will no longer be living with her and may have their own families.
After meeting Viola, I conferred with Mission of Hope about what could be done to help Viola in building this home and if there would be anything that would hinder us from being able to help her. Since then, Mission of Hope has sent out a small team to evaluate the foundation that Viola has already built to determine an estimate of the cost of finishing the home. The total cost to complete the home for Viola and her children is $6,065. The money raised will be given to the Mission of Hope organization located in Haiti and they will utilize the money raised to complete the construction of this home for Viola and her children. Please consider donating money towards Viola's home construction. Any donation can make a difference and put Viola one step closer to having this home completed. If you are unable to donate at this time, please join us in praying for the safety of this family as they hold tight to God's Word, love, and hope. Thank you!
