What if a piece of land in Vine Grove could help families put food on the table—right here, right now?

What if rising grocery costs and gas prices didn’t hit quite as hard because we had a way to grow our own?

That’s exactly what we’re building.

Vine Grove Roots Initiative
Growing Food. Growing Community. Growing Together.

In the heart of Vine Grove, inside Scheible Park, there is a wide stretch of open land.

Right now, it’s just grass.

But we see something more.

We see rows of raised garden beds feeding families.
We see fruit trees growing roots for the next generation.
We see neighbors gathering under soft lights, sharing knowledge, harvests, and connection.

We see a place that belongs to all of us.

This is the Vine Grove Roots Initiative.

Why This Matters

Food insecurity isn’t somewhere else—it’s here.

Families are navigating rising grocery costs, and one of the biggest drivers behind that is something we all feel every day—rising gas prices.

When fuel costs go up:
• The cost to transport food increases
• Prices at the grocery store rise
• Supply chains tighten
• Everyday essentials become harder to afford

At the same time:
• Military and federal families in our area have experienced instability
• Programs like SNAP and WIC continue to face reductions

These pressures don’t exist in isolation—they stack.

And our community feels it.

This project is a local, sustainable response.

Not a handout.
A hand up.

The Land & Opportunity

Located off Scheible Park Road, this site offers:

• Open, usable land ready for development
• A central location accessible to the community
• Natural water access from Brushy Fork
• Existing nearby power infrastructure
• A layout that supports long-term growth

This is not just a space.

It’s an opportunity.

️ How We Build It — A Phased Approach

We are building this intentionally, in phases, so that every dollar creates real, visible progress.

---

Phase 1 — Groundwork & Infrastructure
Make the land usable, sustainable, and secure

• Site preparation and layout
• Initial raised beds (lumber + soil)
• Fencing for protection
• Creek-fed pump system
• Irrigation lines and water access
• Rain barrels
• Electrical connection using nearby power
• Garden lighting for safety and usability
• Hoses and distribution systems

This is the foundation. Without it, nothing else can grow.

---

Phase 2 — Growing Spaces & Community Use
Start feeding people and building participation

• Expansion of raised beds
• Berry bushes and plantings
• Shared tools and equipment
• Storage shed
• Pathways for accessibility

This is where the garden comes to life.

---

Phase 3 — Orchard & Sustainability
Invest in long-term food security

• Fruit tree orchard
• Pollinator-friendly plantings
• Composting and soil systems
• Expanded water sustainability

These are the pieces that give back for years to come.

---

Phase 4 — Community Gathering Space
Create connection, education, and shared space

• Pavilion construction
• Picnic tables and benches
• Workshop and class space
• Expanded lighting for evening use

This is where the garden becomes a true community hub.

---

The Full Vision

The full build-out of the Vine Grove Roots Initiative represents an investment of approximately $30,000–$70,000, developed over time through community support, grants, and partnerships.

We are not expecting to raise this all at once.

We are building this step by step—with purpose, transparency, and community involvement guiding every phase.

GoFundMe & Transparency

We have launched a GoFundMe to help bring this vision to life.

Every dollar raised goes directly into building the Vine Grove Roots Initiative—materials, infrastructure, and community resources outlined above.

At this time, the Vine Grove Roots Initiative is a community-led project and is not yet a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means donations are not currently tax-deductible.

We are actively exploring nonprofit status and grant opportunities as the project grows, and we are committed to full transparency in how funds are used every step of the way.

This Is Bigger Than a Garden

This is about:

• Food access
• Community resilience
• Education and skill-building
• Reducing dependence on fragile supply chains
• Building something that lasts
