1.) Who am I and where am I from:
I am Benjamin West and I have lived Wilsonville Oregon in the neighborhood of Villebios neighborhood since 2014.
2.) My relationship or contact to the parties we are raising funds for:
I am a neighbor to the victims of the fire, and I am also an elected official. I am currently serving as a Wilsonville City Councilor.
3.) How will the funds be spent:
The funds will be distributed to those in the community that incurred a hardship related to the fire. For example, the funds can be used by recipients to recover items not covered by insurance, housing expenses or costly insurance deductibles.
4.) Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiary/ies.
I worked quickly to create a transparent and ethical structure to get the funds distributed to the families in need. For expediency reasons, a group of neighbors and community leaders formed a division off of the existing local non-profit BrewsForCommunity, which started a committee for the Villebois Crisis Fund. Our board consist of myself, Katie Green, Paul Rummell, Jim Bruns, Kristin Smith and our attorney Kevin Swan. The bank account has been set-up at the Wilsonville USBank to handle all of the funds raised by local businesses, and the funds raised through the GoFundMe. Furthermore, we have set up a simple, confidential application for those in need of support to complete and the board will vote on the award to each of the applicants. Funds will be granted to recipients based on need and hardship. Setting up a legitimate structure to disburse funds was a top priority to ensure a transparent, ethical and equitable process.
