Village in Greece needs Staircase to Mountaintop
Donation protected
First off I'd like to thank you for clicking on our cause, I'll get straight to the point.
My name is Dimitrios Gkiatas, I'm a Greek living in Germany. Last week my mother Konstantina Karachaliou (my mother wanted to keep her lastname) came to me and told me that some crazy greeks from her village in Greece decided to build a staircase up the local mountain and that they need our help to finance it. My family runs a greek restaurant here in Germany and as you can imagine money is tight at the moment thanks to this Corona Virus everyone is talking about.
My Family and I will ofcourse donate some money (200,-€) but its nowhere near the 2500,-€ material cost you would need to build a 1300 meter (~4265 feet) staircase up the mountain.

They will build the staircase with their own hands as seen in the photos and the money is for the materials only! Things like wood, stone, rope and tools. Naturally I wanted to help those people and since I can't give them the money they need I decided on the next best thing I knew of... the Internet!

This is my first gofundme and if you decide to donate any amount of money to our project those crazy greeks will carve your name on a board at the beginning of the staircase. So if you visit our beautiful little village one day, you and everybody else has physical proof that you were a part of this project.
The people building the Staircase will also build some benches along the way for people to rest on.
Where is the Village and the Mountain?
As mentioned above the Village is in Greece and is named Chandrinos in a region named Messinia, Peloponnese. My mother grew up in that village, its small but very welcoming and warm, its perfect if you want to visit Greece since you are only 10 minutes by car away from the Ocean. The nearest beach is named Gialova, it is a very clean and big beach with many hotels and restaurants.

Why the Staircase?
There is a church on top of the mountain named Prophet Elias Church, many people from the village visit this church but the way to the top is long and dangerous since the only road leading there was build with tourism in mind and is a long upward spiral so the tourists can see all of Messinia from the mountain. The old people of the village know the area already and would much rather climb the mountain with the shortest path possible. And that's where we come in. The staircase will be a straight path from the foot of the mountain to the top with some benches on the way so those old bones can recharge from time to time.

Who is building the staircase?
The people building this staircase are the ones you see in the photos. They are hard working men who want to give back to the village who raised them. They work their jobs every day and build this staircase in their freetime without any compensation. I really want to help those people and if you want to help too please consider donating any amount no matter how small. And even if you can't donate please consider sharing this project.

I'll leave you with some more photos and thank you very much for your time.
Have a nice day!
