GLOBAL PANDEMIC STONEWALK
If you would like to contribute to the rebuilding the Stonewalk caisson ($600) and the purchase of the one-ton granite pandemics memorial stone ($5,900), it would be greatly appreciated.
We at the Peace Abbey and Life Experience School humbly announce plans for a Stonewalk (2021?) that addresses global pandemics and COVID–19 in particular. A one-ton granite stone will be cut with the words GLOBAL PANDEMICS: A Touchstone for Humanity and will be pulled down the East Coast to New York City, linking hospitals and nursing homes along the way.
The Peace Abbey has adapted the prior focus of innocent victims of war to equally innocent victims of pandemics worldwide, since the dawn of human history to this recent COVID-19. Pandemics have swept throughout the world claiming millions of lives and shaped human history in their wake as only wars have.
This Stonewalk will commemorate Victim of Pandemics Worldwide and will acknowledge the extraordinary contribution and sacrifices of healthcare and essential service workers throughout the world.
The Stonewalk bereavement journey endeavors to bring together those who might find solace through bringing a remembrance stone, photograph of a loved one, or participating in pulling the memorial stone on the newly rebuilt caisson to its next, rotating placement. Bereavement counselors will be participating along the way to comfort and console those who visit the stone. This memorial to victims of pandemics will have its final resting place near the United Nations.
PLEASE NOTE: Beginning in July 2020, the pandemic touchstone will be held in sanctuary on the grounds of various places of worship throughout the Boston area for bereavement purposes until it departs for NYC.
This pandemic bereavement touchstone is under the care of The Peace Abbey and Life Experience School in Millis, Massachusetts.
