Hurricane Dorian strengthened into a catastrophic Category 5 storm reaching the Bahamas as "the strongest hurricane in modern records" to ever hit the archipelago, according to the National Hurricane Center, based on its sustained winds of 185 mph.
With wind gusts over 220 mph, the slow-moving storm is lashing the Abaco Islands with "catastrophic conditions" and driving a storm surge of 18 to 23 feet. Dorian clocked in at a dangerously slow 5 mph. The storm is now tied with the 1935 Labor Day hurricane as the strongest storms to hit land in the Atlantic.
As many know, SeaHunter Boats as a group has visited the Abaco Islands frequently and now they need our help. We are coordinating the collection of supplies- Tarps, batteries, flash lights, toiletries of all types, generators, medicines, first aid kits, water, baby formula and pedialyte. Please donate to help those affected in the Abacos.
SeaHunter Boats is working closely with local organizations to coordinate the distribution of supplies and we have three planes set up to take supplies over to the Abacos as well as access to a barge that will be taking 40’ containers over to Marsh Harbour in the Abacos.
