VICtims Against Abuse
We in the cosplay and anime communities have been impacted by the allegations against Vic Mignona, allegations that have circulated for nearly a decade. While many of us grew up hearing him voice our heroes, we now have to face a truth that our heroes on screen do not have to be heroes in real life. Recent action has been taken as survivors of sexual assault and harassment have spoken out in larger and larger numbers against Vic Mignona, but the droves of fans continue to attack victims of Vic's alleged actions.
In the past week, nearly $80,000 has been raised in support of Vic. Rather than support those speaking out after enduring abuse and criticism for years, fans are choosing to attack victims and raise money to support an alleged abuser. This idea was horrifying to me, so I thought I should try something myself.
I am starting this go fund me with a simple mission: support the victims of abuse. I may not be able to heal the hurt caused by Vic's alleged actions, but I can try and support victims and organizations that help them. So I'm starting this Go Fund Me to do just that.
The money from this fundraiser will go to support the Joyful Heart Foundation, which supports victims and educates to prevent abuse. "Joyful Heart carries out its mission through an integrated program portfolio of healing, education, and advocacy. Our work is paving the way for innovative approaches to treating trauma, igniting shifts in the way the public views and responds to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, and reforming legislation to ensure justice for survivors."
