Hi everyone,
I’m running the Royal Victoria Marathon this October and will be raising money to help support the Vic West Little Free Pantry.
The Vic West Food Security Collective (FSC) is a group of dedicated volunteers who live in Vic West and work to improve food access in the community. The Vic West Little Free Pantry, located at the corner of Raynor & Fullerton, is a barrier-free resource run by these volunteers. They shop for the pantry every few weeks, and a volunteer visits the pantry daily to add non-perishable food and hygiene items.
What is a free little pantry?
It’s a community-driven outdoor pantry containing non-perishable food items and other essential supplies for those in need. It’s open 24/7 and available for anyone to access at any time, no questions asked, no judgment.
At a time when many people struggle to afford basic necessities, this small but dedicated project helps fill gaps by offering support to individuals and families facing food insecurity. Volunteers work hard to ensure the pantry is stocked and ready whenever someone needs it.
Food insecurity is a major health determinant that affects both physical and mental well-being. In 2022, nearly 1 in 6 Canadians lived in food-insecure households. When individuals and families can’t afford enough food, they face higher risks of poor health outcomes. Food access is one of the most significant social determinants of health, a factor shaping a person’s ability to live a healthy, fulfilling life.
Small, community-led initiatives like this pantry are crucial because they provide immediate, barrier-free access to food. These efforts don’t fix the root causes of poverty, but they help people feel heard and supported. They also show what it looks like when communities come together to care for each other.
By donating to the Little Free Pantry, you’re providing a vital resource to those in need and helping make a positive change.
Your donation will help keep the pantry stocked, maintained, and available for anyone who needs it.
If you’re able to give, share this fundraiser, or simply help spread the word, it all makes a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting efforts that help people live with dignity and hope.
With gratitude,
Evan
