Hello family and friends. My name is Haley. My dad is Stephen Cantu. Some of you may know him as Sapo, Lefty, Steve, etc. To me, he is my babies' grandpa and my very best friend.

As many of you know, my dad suffered from a major stroke in 2021. The stroke completely altered his life. He had to learn to walk and talk again. This caused permanent facial paralysis. Even then, with all odds against him, he overcame and fought hard.

Since 2021, my dad has been diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure and chronic heart failure. He does dialysis every day and continues to fight so that he can watch his grandbabies grow. This year has been especially difficult as his heart health has rapidly declined. My dad was involved in a car accident Monday due to a medical episode from lack of blood and oxygen to his brain. Because of this, he has lost his ability to drive and live on his own.

My dad is currently at the hospital and we just learned that his heart is functioning and pumping blood out at only 15-20%. This is incredibly low as a healthy individual should be anywhere between 55-75%. A brave doctor who specializes in advanced arterial and heart disease has taken on his case and is going to perform a triple bypass early next week. The surgery comes with many risks because of his history, but the reward is so great. My dad is a fighter and he is going to beat this and come out better.

The purpose of creating this GoFundMe is to directly support my father in his recovery and create a livable space for him at my home as he needs more attention and care.
