Hi, I'm Christi Haswell and I'm running the Arizona Monster 300 and using it to raise funds for the Veterans Feeding Veterans program. All funds go directly to the program which is managed by the Wyoming Veteran's Commission and Tim Sheppard, Executive Director. My $6,120 goal is $20 dollars a mile and I hope we can do it!

In 2024, Veterans Feeding Veterans supported 132 veterans needing assistance with food insecurities in Sheridan County. That totaled $21,900 in food support. Please help me support our Sheridan veterans!

ABOUT

The Veterans Feeding Veterans program was started in 2019 as the result of a $2,500 grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation. The program provides a grocery store food card to those Veterans, currently serving service members and family members who are financially struggling and thus food insecure.

The program provides a $150 food card to individuals and a $250 food card to those with dependents. The program doesn’t support anyone with a bad conduct discharge. The WVC Executive Director is the sole approval authority for food cards. Food card requesters, in concert with the executive director, are responsible for determining eligibility of potential recipients.

HOW IT WORKS

The program identifies possible recipients from a wide range of reliable sources. These sources include the WVC commissioners and staff, Veterans Service Organizations (The American Legion, DAV, VFW, and MOPH), the Volunteers of America (VOA) military chains of command, and other centers of influence around the state.

HAND-UP

Designed to be a hand-up versus a hand-out program, recipients are encouraged to seek other ways to support their food requirement and to increase or stretch their food dollar. This includes the use of local food pantries, Veterans Rock, churches and other interfaith organizations, SNAP, Cent$ible nutrition, WHI assets and other local resources.

BOTTOM LINE

The need for this program is real with an untold number of Veterans and currently serving members who are food insecure and could use a hand-up. The Veterans Feeding Veterans Program has proven to be exceptionally successful making a difference in the lives of Veterans, active service members and family members who are food insecure.
