URGENT FUNDRAISING APPEAL–
VINEYARD HOUSE WAIVES RENT DURING COVID-19 OUTBREAK
Vineyard House is the only residential recovery campus on Martha’s Vineyard, providing safe, supportive housing for up to 25 men and women who want to live clean and sober.
During the coronavirus outbreak and while the Island is under a stay-at-home order, almost all of our residents are out of work. Vineyard House is waiving rent for residents and looking for other ways to support them through this unprecedented health crisis.
Without income from rent, our resources have been seriously depleted, and so we hope you will consider a donation to Vineyard House to help offset this unexpected shortfall.
We are thankful that to date no one in the Vineyard House family has contracted the virus, and we have taken special measures to guard against infection. However, living in a group home environment by definition increases the risk of contracting Covid-19, and we are trying to do all we can to reduce this added stress.
Here are some snapshots of how we are adapting to life during the Covid-19 pandemic.
We have closed the campus to all non-residents for the safety of everyone. Twelve-step meetings normally held in the Hazel Teagan Room are now online, and residents continue to participate in support groups via Zoom.
We have implemented strict sanitation protocols and have developed a quarantine plan in the event a resident contracts the virus.
Rent has been waived for those out of work. In the interest of fairness, residents who are presently employed are having their rent put in escrow; these rent payments will be refunded to them when they leave, to help them transition to independent living.
We have temporarily lifted our restriction against hiring residents to do work on campus by initiating our own stimulus program that will involve projects above and beyond normal chores such as spring landscape cleanup, etc.
We are grateful to the Permanent Endowment of Martha’s Vineyard, which has helped us offset some of this shortfall. Your help during this health crisis will go a long way to helping us to continue to operate and support our residents.
Thank you!
