Peru Training-Children w/Disabilities

I will be conducting a training in two communities of Peru for children with disabilities. The main objective is to provide necessary tools and knowledge so that by the time training is over, the community leaders will be able to then learn and apply these strategies in their workplace and communities. Many children in these communities are abandoned and neglected because these people still believe that a disability is a curse. Some of the time will be dedicated to spreading awareness and breaking myths concerning disabilities, and the other portion will deal with strategies on how to communicate with children with a disability who cannot talk. I lived in these two communities for a year and saw many of these children that wanted to communicate but didn't know how because they were nonverbal and were therefore left abandoned. However, I have the opportunity this May-July of 2014 to work with the community leaders and Educators to start up this training.
A few statistics:
--- In the capitol of Lima, almost 90% of children with disabilities are excluded from public education (www.unicef.org).
--- Eight out of 10 children are suffering physical or psychological violence; children with disabilities receive more abuse than children without disabilities (http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/where-we-work/south-america/peru).
My hopes are that by post-training, the community members will be able to be self sufficient and carry out what they learned to help better these children's lives. All funding will go directly towards the training and supplies (for example, I will teach the community how to make low tech communication devices and we will make them together so that each person that attends can bring one back to their community).

Below are other trainings I have done in the past in one of the larger communities in one of the schools of Peru. These were from a family violence and relationship training (I taught the community with a psychologist on the cycle of abuse and how create healthy relationships with their children); a Youth Health Promoters training regarding topics such as teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, family violence, self-esteem and communication; among other trainings. Estaré haciendo una capacitación/entrenamiento en 2 comunidades de Perú para niños con discapacidades. El objetivo más importante es proveer los recursos necesarios y conocimientos para que cuando el entrenamiento termine, los líderes de la comunidad puedan hacer uso de lo que aprendieron y apliquen las estrategias en sus comunidades y trabajos. Muchos niños han sido abandonados y desatendidos porque mucha gente todavía cree que la discapacidad es una maldición. Parte del tiempo se va a enfocar en impartir conocimientos y romper los mitos sobre las discapacidades, y la otra parte va a tratar de estrategias sobre cómo comunicarse con los niños con discapacidades quienes no pueden hablar. Yo viví en estas dos comunidades por un año y ví muchos de estos niños los cuales querian comunicarse pero no pudieron porque no sabían como hacerlo y luego fueron abandonados. Sin embargo, tengo la oportunidad este Mayo hasta Julio del 2014 de trabajar con los líderes y educadores para iniciar este entrenamiento.
Algunas estadísticas:

--- Cada 8 de 10 niños sufren de violencia psicológica o física; niños con discapacidades reciben mas abuso que niños sin discapacidades (http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/where-we-work/south-america/peru).
Mis esperanzas son que por el post-entrenamiento, los miembros de la comunidad van a poder ser autosuficientes y realizar lo que ya han aprendido para ayudar a mejorar las vidas de estos niños. Todos los fondos van directamente hacia el entrenamiento y los materiales (por ejemplo, voy a enseñar a la comunidad como hacer dispositivos de comunicación de tecnología baja para que cada persona que vaya al entrenamiento se pueda llevar uno a su comunidad).
Abajo hay otros entrenamientos que yo he hecho en el pasado, en una de las comunidades más grandes en una escuela de Perú. Son de un entrenamiento sobre violencia familiar y relaciones, (yo enseñé a la comunidad con una psicológa sobre el ciclo del abuso y sobre cómo crear relaciones saludables con sus hijos) también un entrenamiento de promoción de la salud de los jóvenes en el cual se trataron temas como el embarazo en la adolescencia, SIDA/VIH, violencia familiar, autoestima y comunicación, entre otros entrenamientos.
