Valentine's Day Gifts for Women's Shelters 2021
Donation protected
Since 2015, the Seva YEG team has collected donations of chocolates & teddy bears for distribution to women's shelters in Edmonton on Valentine's Day. The purpose of this project is to put smiles on the faces of women and children living in shelters. It's especially easy for people going through a rough patch in life to feel left out on Valentine's Day. Let's come together and give our love to our friends living at the shelters.
For 2021, as we did in 2020, the Seva YEG team will be collecting monetary donations, which will be used to purchase the chocolates & teddies. Our goal is to distribute a total of 205 gifts to 5 different shelters across the city (WIN House, Lurana Shelter Society, La Salle Shelter, Wings of Providence, Sage Seniors Association). We have come to a budget of $15 per gift (chocolate + teddy + wrapping), which brings us to a fundraising goal of $3,165 (including GoFundMe's 2.9% take; GoFundMe also charges an additional $0.30 per donation, so we have set a higher campaign goal of $3,500). Any funds raised in excess of the costs of the initiative will be kept in Sikhs for Humanity's coffers for use on future projects.
Fundraising will come to a close on February 12th. All items will be purchased by February 13th (teddies will be purchased in advance due to the shipping turnaround of the wholesale bulk order) and the gifts will be wrapped on the evening of the same day. The gifts will be distributed to the shelters on the morning of February 14th - Valentine's Day.
For added sweetness, the elementary students of Calder School will be handcrafting Valentine's Day cards with personal messages to be included with the gifts.
Please consider donating to this project for another successful year. If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact us through this campaign page.
