Hello, my name is Antonio Iglesias. I’m a British citizen originally from Valencia, Spain. On the 29th of October 2024 as some of you would be aware, my hometown—and many surrounding areas—was hit by catastrophic flooding. While my family and closest friends have been fortunate to escape unharmed, countless others have lost their homes, businesses, and loved ones.
The destruction is beyond imagination. Over 150 km² of land has been devastated—more than three times the size of Exeter, where I currently live in the UK. More than 30 towns have been affected, and the death toll is already over 200 people, with thousands still missing. Nearly 190,000 people are directly impacted, including over 54,000 small businesses that have been wiped out.
What We Are Doing to Help
My wife and I have returned to Spain to support the affected communities. We are working alongside local NGOs (non-governmental organisations) to provide essential supplies such as food, water, clothing, and medical aid. However, the need is far greater than what we can manage alone. The public infrastructure is destroyed, and the number of people in need is overwhelming.

Hola, mi nombre es Antonio Iglesias. Soy ciudadano británico originario de Valencia, España. Como muchos de ustedes sabrán, el 29 de octubre de 2024 mi ciudad natal, y muchas áreas circundantes, fueron golpeadas por inundaciones catastróficas. Aunque mi familia y amigos cercanos han tenido la suerte de salir ilesos, innumerables otras personas han perdido sus hogares, negocios y seres queridos.
La destrucción es inimaginable. Más de 150 km² de terreno han sido devastados, lo que equivale a más de tres veces el tamaño de Exeter, ciudad donde resido actualmente en el Reino Unido. Más de 30 localidades se han visto afectadas, y el número de víctimas mortales ya supera los 200, con miles de personas aún desaparecidas. Cerca de 190,000 personas están directamente afectadas, además de que unas 54,000 pequeñas empresas o comercios han sido destruidas.
¿Qué estamos haciendo para ayudar?
Mi esposa y yo hemos regresado a España para apoyar a las comunidades afectadas. Estamos trabajando junto a “Organizaciones no Gubernamentales” para proporcionar suministros esenciales como alimentos, agua, ropa y ayuda médica. Sin embargo, la necesidad es mucho mayor de lo que podemos manejar por nuestra cuenta. La infraestructura pública ha sido destruida y la cantidad de personas necesitadas es abrumadora.
