Clean Water Well in Tanzania

Donation protected
Hi Friends,

I'm heading to Tanzania to build a clean water well and work on sanitation projects in October 2015 and I couldn't be more excited!

As many of you know, advocating for social justice is something that I am truly passionate about. I'm particularly focused on the eradication of poverty and preventable disease in the developing world; and water plays a huge roll.  Clean water is a basic human right yet close to one billion people lack access, and a child dies every 19 seconds due to water related illness.  I am now putting my “money where my mouth is” so-to-speak and have been accepted to participate in a fellowship program with the registered non-profit charity E.P.I.C. which works to provide access to clean water and sanitation projects in Africa.

I’ve committed to raising / contributing funds towards the drilling and construction of a water well in the Iringa region of Tanzania, which I will travel to in October to help build. In addition to working on the construction of the well, I will also spend time teaching hygiene and sanitation to children at the community school. I will be staying with a host family in the village for a little over two weeks and I’m very much looking forward to digging in and truly making an impact with more than just my voice and my computer.

For my upcoming birthday, I have asked friends and family to donate to this project. Instead of cards or presents, help me give the gift of clean water to serve an entire community. That’s impact! From improving health, to increasing education opportunities and reducing poverty - Water changes everything; especially for women and girls who spend up to 3 hours each day walking to collect it. Imagine your daughter deprived of an education because she is forced to spend half of the average school day walking to fetch water while being extremely vulnerable to attack along the way.

I would be grateful for your support towards this project and if you can’t contribute financially, consider using your voice to raise awareness about the importance of access to clean / safe water, and reach out to your MP’s to let them know this issue is important to you. If you DM me, I’d be happy to send you stats, infographics etc. to share on your social media feeds.

I plan to keep my social media feeds up-to-date while I’m on the ground so that I can share project updates. This way you can see where your money is going and the incredible impact is has on the community.

For those interested in how I’ve arrived at my goal amount, $2950 is the fellowship fee and goes toward the project, and my airfare is $1700. There are also admin fees for contributions received through this site. If you'd like to support this project outside of this site, please send me a message and I can provide details.

I am committed to this water well with or without fundraising and prepared to invest in this project on my own as I truly believe this will powerfully impact the community for years to come. With that said, I am hoping to subsidize some of the construction and travel costs through family, friends, and others like me who believe that we are a global village and are interested in making a difference in the world.

Anything raised over and above the goal amount will be donated back to E.P.I.C for future clean water projects allowing them to continue their amazing work! I plan to send a small token of my appreciation to each and every person who donates, so please be sure to message me with your address details.

You can learn more about E.P.I.C and the other clean water wells they’ve constructed by visiting their website: http://www.epicthemovement.com/projects.

Thank-you so much for your support!
