Angel Amelia

Hello,
Firstly, Thank you for viewing my story. My name is Boo and I will be completing a physicality challenge in memory of my little, beautiful, kind, cheeky, bright and happy cousin Amelia Davies.

Amelia was born in 2012 Darlington. From a young age, Amelia was always her own boss and had her own mind! She was always kind, helpful, generous, silly and cheeky to all those that knew her.

I unfortunately did not get to see Amelia as often as I would like, which I regret now but I will forever hold the memories that I did have with her in my heart.

The first time I met Amelia, she was just a couple weeks old, she was so tiny and perfect . I would later go on to see her and get to celebrate with her on her first birthday. I remember she had a disney princess cake that she got all over her face!

I remember taking her outside to see the flowers in great nanny's garden where Amelia was so curious about the outside world and so full of laughs and joy. All those moments out in that garden and celebrating her birthday not once did her smile fade. She was content and bubbly!

It would be a few years later until I saw her next.

The next time I saw her, myself, my sister Paige and Amelia's mum Rhiannon all decided to go to Chessington World of Adventures. This was an extremely fun and active day, especially for me as I had a cheeky little monkey on my back for most of it! Whilst my sister Paige and Rhiannon went on the rides I would stay with Amelia and wait with her until they came back.

During this time I remember Amelia loved and wanted so much to get this Unicorn soft plush toy from those annoying grabbing machines. After using her money and not succeeding in getting her toy she turned to me and asked "Boo please can you try" I tried but could not do it myself. Again she asked " Please, please try again use your coins" so after spending over £10 on this machine and many failed goes, I finally won the Unicorn plush toy she wanted. She was absolutely ecstatic and gave me a big hug and said thank you.

As we walked around the zoo, I offered Amelia a piggy back ride. I remember Rhiannon saying " don't offer her that, she won't let you put her down". I did not believe her, but Amelia did get a piggy back for a whole 2 hours straight! This was a very fun day out with her.

The next time I saw her, she was visiting with her best friend. While she was visiting, she and her friend wanted to watch some movies specifically disney. She knew if she came and asked me I had lots of options to give her.

Unfortunately she did ruin my lovely well organised order of movies, but I forgave her because she asked if I could watch the movie with them.

These are the memories that I will hold and forever treasure with Amelia.

Amelia was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in October 2020 after experiencing stomach pains and constipation.

Amelia was booked in for an ultrasound at Darlington Memorial Hospital where doctors found a tumour on Amelia's left kidney .

After doctors found some cancerous neuroblastoma cells she was booked in to have the tumour removed on November 16. However, it was than decided to carry out a bone marrow test to make sure the cells hadn’t spread elsewhere.

Amelia, underwent chemotherapy  in November 2020 and was having chemotherapy every 10 days for eight sessions.

Amelia was fitted with a feeding tube as her weight plummetted and she suffered from horrid side effects from the treatment.

Amelia even had treatment on Christmas Eve and spent most of Christmas Day in bed but our family was given the good news that the treatment was working as the tumour had shrunk,  and she was due to have an operation to remove the rest of the tumour in February 2021.

On January 13 it was Amelia's last treatment and she had an MRI scan which showed that the bone marrow was clear and the tumour had shrunk even more. But then, doctors had found another cell on her left hip bone that they weren't aware of before but the tumour had shrunk and it was all going in the right direction.

Amelia was preparing to be discharged until her condition suddenly worsened during a potassium infusion.

On the 25th of January 2021 Amelia sadly passed away.

This year marks the one year anniversary of her death. To honour her memory and to mark the one year anniversary, I have decided to set up and complete my own challenge. My challenge is called the "Physicality challenge " . I called it this because it will push my physical capabilites to the limit. I won't be as strong or as brave as she was but I am going to push myself to the maximum.

The challenge will consist of me doing an army obstacle course, a 25 mile night walk and finally jumping from a plane at 15,000 feet.

I plan to raise money to buy toys and equipment for the NewCastle hospital where she died. I will meet with her mum Rhiannon and take these toys to the hospital. With any remaining donations, I will also be donating to  small local hospitals children's wards. This is so children at these hospitals can get any of the equipment they need and or the toys they deserve while fighting and recovering in hospital.

This is a little poem that I wrote in memory of Amelia. I wrote this poem on a ballon which was released into the sky during her funeral in February 2021.

"Amelia you may be gone from our sight, but you will never be gone from our hearts. You have gained your wings and taken flight, up to heaven amongst the stars. Shine down upon us all, we miss you and will love you always"

Please I would be truly grateful for any contributions you can make to this cause.

Thank You Xxxx
