It is with profound sadness that we mourn the untimely passing of our friend, Ray Avila. Ray passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 30, 2022.
Ray was a devoted family man, a loving father, and dedicated partner to his beloved wife Kristy. Ray and Kristy met during college while working at Disneyland, fell in love and married at the "happiest place on earth". Together they built a happy life that included having two wonderful sons, Colin and Jameson. The Avila family moved to Austin, Texas in 2006 so that Ray could spend less time commuting and more time with his family.
Ray was a loyal friend, a steadfast collegue and one of the kindest people you could ever meet. A 30 year veteran of radio production and digital media, he was loved and respected by his friends in the radio community from Los Angeles and at stations across the country.
He was loved by his Scouting family, having served as Cubmaster at Pack 150 and then Scoutmaster of Troop 97. The Scouts and troop leaders are forever grateful for Ray's service and for guiding the troop through one of its most difficult years with the Covid pandemic. He made an impact on so many of our Scouts' lives through his mentorship.
Ray was humble and always put others first. He never sought the spotlight and was shy about speaking in public. Instead, his acts of kindness, and there were many, speak for themselves. Ray was someone you could always count on. He always found time to help others, especially kids, whether coaching baseball or being a Boy Scout leader. He was a cheerful and fun-loving person with a gentle sense of humor and a great laugh. We were all blessed to have him in our lives and for his generous heart, his selfless labor, time and talent.
As Kristy wrote about her devastating loss, "I honestly don’t know how the next few weeks, months, years, will be without Ray. I don't know how we are going to function without him. He was endlessly supportive and loving, and was always there for me as a husband and a partner. I am going to miss his laugh, his easy going nature, his love of Disney, Star Wars, R2D2, Pluto, Angels Baseball, being outdoors, firepits, our dogs, and his love of music. Thank you all for being my support while we remember the amazing person Ray was".
Please consider making a contribution towards supporting this family as they cope not only with their grief but also with the loss of the man who was father, husband and breadwinner. Especially now, as they head into the holidays and as Jameson looks at graduating high school next year and applying to college. Any amount will be deeply appreciated.
