2017 DC Police Week Escort
We are two law enforcement groups, the Kentucky Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors and the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Inc., Kentucky Chapter XI.
National Police Week will be observed in Washington D.C. the week of May 12 thru the 16th. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
One of our local police departments, whom will remain unnamed, attends annually with their motorcycle unit. While there, this unit works long hours, daily, with expenses being paid by donations for this project from the public, to escort the Concerns of Police Survivors attendees from the airport to the host hotel, from the host hotel to different programs throughout the City of Washington, DC and at the end of the week, back to the airport. It is nothing for these men to spend 12-16 hours a day, tending to the survivors of Police Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Again, the expenses are paid for by donations only, not by their department!
Money raised will pay for gasoline of the vehicles to haul the bikes to Washington, fuel for the bikes while in Washington, rooms and food for these volunteers while in DC and fuel for the trip back. Any funds raised over the amount needed this year, will be used in coming years as these motor officers attend annually. Kentucky has six (6) officers that will be added to the Memorial Wall this year and those families will greatly benefit from these fine Kentucky Officers being in Washington, DC and at the services with them!
We need the funds in the bank as soon as possible and this will mean so much for so many as the families of the survivors will benefit greatly from these escorts!
Thank you for any help you can give!
Sincerely;
The board and volunteers of the Kentucky Chapter of Concerns for Police Survivors
The officers and members of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Inc., Kentucky Chapter XI
