My name is Vanessa Gidden, and I was born and raised in Falmouth, Jamaica. Although I no longer live on the island, it’s been heartbreaking to see my hometown devastated by Hurricane Melissa. Familiar streets are covered in debris, homes of friends and neighbors destroyed, and many families, including mine, left without power, clean water, or basic supplies.

The storm caused severe damage to my family’s home, the place where I grew up and where my family still lives. Seeing the house that once held so many memories, now missing its roof and heavily affected by water damage, has been truly heartbreaking. I’m raising funds to help my family and community rebuild and replace essential items lost in the storm.

My hope is not only to help my family rebuild, but also to extend that same support to our neighbors who have also been deeply affected. So many in our community are struggling to meet their basic needs, and together, we can help them begin to rebuild too.
