Help my mom come home!

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

My name is Samantha and I am asking for your help in supporting my family to be reunited under one roof after 5 and a half long years.

Back in May of 2017, my mom, Sandy was diagnosed with a meningioma. A benign brain tumor that sits between the skull and the lining of her brain. They monitored it for a while to see how fast it was growing, and about a year later, found out it had grown quite a bit. They scheduled a surgery to have it removed on the 30th of November, 2018. Everything went seemingly well with the surgery, but little did we know, my mom's incision and skull were not sealed properly. 12 days after her surgery, she was taken up to the hospital and within a few hours was almost non-responsive. She had contracted a bacterial infection in her brain. Some of the words the Doctor threw around were, 'meningitis' or 'encephalitis'. She spent days in the ICU and then was relocated to the hospital where she originally had the removal surgery. After about 6-8 weeks and 3 more surgeries to try and clean out the infection and re-seal her properly. She had now been bed ridden for close to 3 months. She was extremely weak and confused. Over the next year or so, she faced many challenges. She had a shunt put in her head to re-direct the additional cerebral-spinal fluid that had pooled where her tumour once sat. Also during this year she was bounced around to multiple hospitals and centers that provide some sort of physical and occupational therapy, in hopes of walking again one day.

Currently, she is in one of those facilities and she is giving it her all. If you know my mom, you know she is stubborn and headstrong. She has been working consistently now for 2 years, to get herself to a place where she can be independent and be at home with all of us.

Our house that we've lived in for the past 25 years, was built in the 70's with absolutely no thought about accessibility. Our doors are not wide enough, our bathroom is not suitable for a person in a wheelchair or even with limited mobility. We do not have the proper machinery to assist my mom with transferring from a wheelchair to a bed, etc.

We will use the funds raised to make sure she has everything she needs to be independent and more importantly, feel safe in our home.

At the end of the day I sit and think about how long it has been, and how much my family has missed out on, not having my mom home with us. We miss each other each and every day. I know this has taken a huge toll not only on my little brothers and I, but also my dad. He deserves to have this taken care of for him. For him AND my mom. For all of us.

Please, share this with everyone you know, and if you are able to help, we will be eternally grateful.

Let's get her home!!!

Cheers.
