Jacob and Jason are matching the first $3,500 we raise for Camp Indigo Point.
Indigo Point is a two-week sleep-away camp for LGBTQ+ youth. The camp was started two years ago by a group of community leaders and camp friends to create a space for LGBTQ+ campers to be themselves.
Indigo Point is personal for Jacob and me -- Jason's sibling, Emily, sits on the camp's board and summer camp was an influential part of Jacob's childhood in Toronto.
In 2023, Indigo Point's inaugural session hosted over 200 campers from across 27 states, largely pulling from the Midwest and South where kids are especially challenged to find places where they can be themselves. The first two years of the camp were *magical*. This year the camp will continue at the larger facility where they can host nearly 200 campers and staff for two weeks of archery, swimming, arts, sports, and campfires.
Camp Indigo Point has an established board of leaders with a Camp Director, and is proud to be fiscally sponsored by PROMO, Missouri's LGBTQ+ advocacy organization. The camp's leaders have committed to the value that the greater the financial need of a camper, the more important it likely is that they be at camp. Because of this, the camp gives scholarships and has priced the camp at about half the cost of a typical sleep-away camp.
The funds raised will cover scholarships and security.
