Proyecto Florecer Community Kitchen

Donation protected
Wow, look how far we’ve come! Six months ago we decided to open a community kitchen in one of the most underserved neighborhoods in Medellin, Colombia. We started with nothing.

Our goals were to help the vulnerable women we serve obtain sustainable employment while creating food security and community service for the neighborhood.

Since then we’ve provisioned a professional kitchen and provided more than 15,000 nutritious, delicious meals to the community.

We’ve held dozens of workshops for single mothers, Venezuelan refugees and other vulnerable women on employment skills, personal growth and health & wellbeing.

We’ve seen a group of individual women come together to create a team in the spirit of community service. We’ve watched bonds form between them and seen them rise to leadership within the group. We’ve witnessed them learn how to challenge themselves and how to work together. We’ve seen the community come to depend on us for the food security we provide.

We’ve also attracted the attention of international organizations like the United Nations and found paid employment for some of the women on the team.

It’s been beautiful! And there’s more to come…with your support.

The next phase of Proyecto Florecer includes helping everyone on our team find steady employment in a fragile economy. We also want to hold revenue-generating events like flea markets and artisan fairs once vaccines become available in Colombia. We’d like to offer free English classes, first for our team and then for the community we serve.

And of course, we want to continue feeding the community of Barrio Antioquia that has welcomed us so gratefully.

Without your support, our project will run out of funds in a few short months. Our program is 100% donor-supported, and 100% of your donations go directly to the project. No one on our team gets paid for the work we do. It’s a labor of love.

$400 provides groceries for our volunteers’ families for a month
$150 pays our monthly costs for water, electricity, and use of the space for the kitchen
$50 provides nearly 150 hot meals to the community

Anything you can contribute will help.

All of us thank you for your continued faith in us and your ongoing support!
