My name is Sean Carlson. I am 17 years old and a Life Scout in BSA Troop 57 Downers Grove. I am currently working toward the rank of Eagle Scout, and have just received approval on my Eagle Scout project proposal. I will be building a children’s log cabin for Lyman Woods for use with their outdoor education classes and nature camps through the Downers Grove Park District. The 9’ long x 5’ wide x 7’ tall cabin will be constructed using 6”x 6” square timbers with dovetail notches on the ends to hold it in place. The roof will be constructed using timber framing, plywood, and wood shake shingles. I am planning to complete the construction of the cabin by the end of October/early November. Any extra funds collected will be gifted to the beneficiary, Lyman Woods, to assist with their nature programs.
