The Utila Eyes (a subgroup of Utila Search and Rescue) is a large group of residents, local and ex-pat, who have committed to patrolling our (currently COVID free) island during the COVID-19 Pandemic to keep unauthorized visitors from entering the island for whatever reasons.
During such trying times globally, we expect our island to be targetted as a safe haven and our goal is to provide assistance to the local authorities by around the clock ocean patrolling and lookouts from certain vantage points on the island.
Utila has been closed to tourism since March 15, 2020 and as a direct result of that, many are beginning to struggle financially. Despite our best efforts to conserve the resources available, these additional safety and security measures still incur extra costs that some are simply unable to afford.
Your donations, of any amount, will be used primarily for fuel and to purchase personal protective equipment for the patrollers to have while patrolling in the event of coming into contact with refugees from the mainland. This project is being managed by Utila Search and Rescue and updates will be posted on the Utila Search and Rescue Facebook page for transparency and to keep everyone informed.
