I am reaching out to whoever has got to know or met my sweet angel Rosie who is only 3 years old. Rosie is known to everyone as a very sweet, gentle, and smart dog who is friendly with everyone she that crosses her way. She is known to behave almost like a human would, not just a dog. She is loved and cherished by all that know her. Recently, Rosie became really sick, it started off small with having an upset tummy, the clinic prescribed her a few medications to rule out possible gastroenteritis. One of the medications was an antibiotic “Metronidazole” which was advised to complete the full course of it. After a few days of treatment of this medication combined with others, Rosie felt better, I continued to give the medications even after Rosie had felt better because I was advised to finish treatment. On the 6th day of treatment Rosie went from feeling better to all of a sudden shaking and panting on rest, and symptoms gradually got worse as time went by. The vet informed that it looks like mild toxicity reaction to the Metronidazole, which I was not informed of any toxic or adverse effects upon prescription or else I would have been more careful or stopped treatment as soon as she was better. I was advised to bring her back if any severe symptoms were to happen. The next day Rosie became worse and worse after each hour eventually leading to shaking/panting non stop, and then weakness and eventually blindness. She was taken back and I was informed that she may have permanent blindness as her eyes were bulging out and not reactive to light. It could be a cause of stroke or seizures and be caused by metronidazole sensitivity, even if blood work shows normal. Rosie had IV fluids during her stay at the hospital for 2 days. Upon discharge she seemed okay but had lost alot of weight. The next day while at home, Rosie had new worsening symptoms she never had before like foaming drool out of her mouth and loss of bowel/bladder control which were triggered by a seizure. She is currently hospitalized again. The doctors are not sure what is happening to Rosie and are referring her to get MRI/CT scans as there may be swelling of the brain that may be causing this and the blindness as it has been a couple days now and Rosies still can not see. The longer we wait, the more damage is done to her brain as this is a time sensitive situation and may cause permanent blindness if not treated promptly. The scans will help find the cause of these issues and they are around $4000-$5000 alone. This price doesn’t not include her future treatments or the hospital stays she already had/going through now. If anyone is able to donate with Rosies very complicated case it would mean the world and very much appreciated, anything will help! Rosie is so happy to have met everyone she ever loved! It would mean the world to help Rosie see and play again with her friends and live a happy life. Thank you! God bless you always♥️ -Danella Yako
