Dear friends,
I am here in the small village of Tahan in Myanmar (Burma), living with 17 beautiful children raised by one remarkable single mother, Jessie Pui. The story of Jessie, a theology student who decided to adopt the unwanted village children into her tiny one-room home, truly touched me! Jessie continues to raise her family of 17 children single-handedly, meanwhile always thinking of all the other village children who need help and resources. I am here the next few months, hoping to provide some needed assistance to Jessie's family and the community. Currently, I am operating a summer school program to teach English and provide educational activities/games to the children. In addition, I'm in the process of starting an adult English class in the evenings. Our other immediate needs include expanding our services to include nursery care, launch a community children's library, and start a vegetable garden. Other long term goals include: investing in a generator to have a more reliable source of electricity. It gets unbearably hot and mosquitos are rampant - a few fans for the children would help greatly; perhaps investing in a small fridge as you can imagine shopping daily and cooking daily for 18 people is a challenge. Our list of goals is long, but Jessie and I know eventually it will all be achieve! We would like to ask those who are interested in helping to donate to our cause.
