Urgent Treatment Needed for Johan

Donation protected
Good evening, I was asked to set up this GoFundMe page for a family who urgently needs help covering their son’s medical expenses.

Today, April 14, 2026, we are asking for your prayers and support for Peter & Helena Woelken and their 12-year-old son, Johan, from Spanish Lookout, Belize.

He is currently in the hospital in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, where he is very sick. Johan has developed a rare condition and has endured an incredible amount of suffering—more than words can express.

The illness is called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. It is a serious skin disease, but with proper professional medical care, it can be treated and healed.

During this very difficult time, the family is in urgent need of financial support to cover medical expenses, as well as your prayers for Johan’s healing and strength.

Any support, whether through donations or prayers, would mean so much to the family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with them in this time of need.
I will also include a letter that was sent to me from someone who knows the family, they were hired from the church to help the family.

Guten Abend. Mein Name ist Agatha Schmitt. Wir sind hier grade im Krankenhaus, wo Peter & Helena Woelk, von Spanisch Lookout Belize. Sind mit ihren Kranken Sohn Johan. Was hier so Sehr Schwer Krank ist. Vielen Dank.

It started on Easter Sunday morning with a high fever, and his mouth was dark inside. It didn’t take long before he developed spots on his body. At first, they thought it was probably measles. By Monday, he was covered in blisters and sores—that’s when the picture was taken where he is wearing the orange shirt.

They took him to the closest hospital, where they gave him antibiotics and medication for the fever, but they didn’t have enough resources to treat him properly. He was then sent to a hospital in the city, where they diagnosed him with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, although they weren’t completely certain, as it is a rare and complex disease.

The doctors said they had a treatment they could try to see if it would work for him, but it could cost up to $30,000. The parents didn’t know how they could afford that, so they decided to take him to a government hospital in Chetumal, where he is currently staying.

They are now considering sending him to Mexico City if they cannot find the treatment he needs where he is now, but that would be even more expensive. Please pray for the parents, that they can make the right decision, and for the doctors, that they can find the treatment he needs.
