Community entrepreneurial activities Ethiopia

Team Yared Tour & Travel and Fair2.travel continue the fundraiser to provide support to families in Ethiopia and help communities prepare entrepreneurial activities for hygiene and tourism post-covid-19. 

With international travel at a stand-still, our small tour operation in Ethiopia has seen its bookings drop down. This not only closes our business but also cuts off income through tourism to our local partner communities in southern Ethiopia. 

The isolation of communities in the south means the region is feeling the full force of several crises and economic impacts. Widespread disease (cholera and yellow fever) has caused deaths in the Dassenech tribe following the worst flooding in decades, and crop-eating locusts threaten food security for already-vulnerable people. Due to the collapse of global tourism and raft of state of emergency restrictions, the peoples of the south are facing months of no income.


During these difficult and transitional times we want to continue supporting our partner communities and prepare them for a swift and safe recovery for tourism post-covid-19.  We are working with local authorities in Gamo (Arba Minch), Hamar (Demeka), Borena (Yabello) and Dassanech (Omorate) to decide exactly what is needed, for example local hygiene products and alternative income generating activities.

For example
€10 will provide mouth masks for 10 people.
€20 will provide a simple hand washing tool.
€50 will provide training for 1 person to help them starting a business.


We also want to help get Covid-19 messages to more partner communities by producing visual banners which reinforce government awareness raising.  Each banner costs €20 to produce. 

We are reaching out to friends, family, those who have travelled with us, and anyone who has made meaningful connections in Ethiopia to help us raise this money as quickly as possible. This is an urgent appeal. Covid-19 cases are starting to peak in Ethiopia now, increasing the impact on local communities.


This fundraiser is being organised through the registered non-profit Fair2 Foundation in the Netherlands, a partner of Yared Tour & Travel in Ethiopia. All proceeds raised through the Fair2 Foundation bank account in The Netherlands will be transferred direct to Ethiopia. We plan to keep everyone who has donated updated with photographs of materials purchased and distributed through this page and emails.
