Urgent Roof Repair for a Healthier Home
Donation protected
Our home is killing us and I'm desperate for help.
It rains in my daughter's room when we have bad weather outside. When it rains, you can smell mold throughout my house, and my children's toys are starting to show mold spores. I know the problem lies with our roof—we were told when we purchased the house 9 years ago that the roof would need to be replaced eventually. What we hadn't been told was that there was structural damage to the beams underneath the roof. These beams are so eaten up with mold, it is not just circulating through my house but consuming my family.
My husband's health has been in rapid decline since Nov. 2023 and was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) this past May. He isn't able to physically repair our house the way that he once was, and we are struggling financially to bear the weight of having to travel to Cleveland for his appointments as well as medications.
I have three children, one of whom was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder (SCN), which leaves her severely immunocompromised. Her body is incapable of producing white blood cells, which are crucial in our survival of bacterial and viral infections, and she routinely sees the doctors at Cincinnati Children's Cancer & Blood Diseases Institute. This is the worst possible situation for her to be in—she is not safe in her own bed due to the spores being everywhere. I have tried cleaning surfaces with bleach, but it just regrows until I can get to the root of the problem, which is replacing the beams and roof.
I have applied to various outreach organizations, and I just don't know what else to do. I am failing as a provider and a mother, and my children are suffering for it. I'm so ashamed, but I will do anything for them, and that includes publicly asking for help. Any resources or kind words would be appreciated.
Sincerely, a desperate mother
