Urgent: Replace Perkins Community Well

Donation protected
Per the Millen News: (12/23/24) After four months of waiting and setbacks, a new water well in Perkins is up and running. The well became operational on Tuesday of this week. However residents still need to boil the water for drinking and cooking for several more weeks. The well must be inspected and permitted by the Environmental Protection Division before the water is cleared for drinking.

UPDATE: 10/23/24 - A grant for the new well has been secured! I have no further details but I will post them as they come. Monetary donations received will be used to cover the costs of the well fencing, EPD requirements, and other well related expenses.

* UPDATE (10/01/24) Hurricane Helene has hit our community, complicating matters further. The fire department was unable to refill the storage tank during the storm and our donated drinking water is depleting more rapidly. We know other parts of the world need more assistance and prayers than we do, but our situation is grim. We still need bottled water donations, and if you are able, we are still raising money for a new well. Your support is crucial during this challenging time. Thank you for standing with us.

* UPDATE (9/17/24) Unfortunately, the recent repair to address the well failure has not been successful, and the community is deeply devastated by this setback. While we had hoped for temporary relief, the situation remains dire, and a new well is still urgently needed.

* UPDATE (9/16/24) So excited to share that a repair is in the works to address the well failure. While a new well is still needed, the repair will provide some temporary relief In the meantime, bottled water donations will be distributed until the water is deemed safe for consumption. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have donated and volunteered thus far. ❤️ Our work is not yet complete, but we are optimistic that this repair will alleviate the burden on the volunteer fire department and bring some peace of mind to the community. Our next objective is to secure funding for a new well. Thank you for your continued support!

Help Us Restore Safe Drinking Water for the Perkins Community

Dear Friends and Supporters,

The Perkins Water Authority is facing a critical crisis. Our community well, which provides safe drinking water to 90 residents in Georgia, has failed. This has left our neighbors—many of whom are elderly and on fixed incomes—without access to clean water.

We urgently need to replace the well, a costly endeavor that will require upwards of $90,000. Without immediate help, our residents are at risk of continuing their daily lives without safe drinking water, an essential necessity for health and well-being.

The Perkins Water Authority is working tirelessly to secure the resources needed to repair and replace the well, but we cannot do this alone. We need you, our extended community, to support us in this urgent time of need.

Your generous contributions will go directly towards replacing the well and restoring safe drinking water to our residents.

Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to resolving this crisis. Together, we can ensure that our elderly and vulnerable neighbors have access to the basic necessities they need and deserve.

Thank you for your compassion and support.
