My name is Shirlese, and I live in Illinois. I am reaching out with a heavy heart after Hurricane Melissa tore through the western part of Jamaica—my husband Michael’s home country—leaving widespread devastation in its wake.
The parish of Westmoreland was among the hardest hit. Entire communities were left in ruins. Homes lost their roofs, some were completely destroyed, and families who once had shelter are now exposed to the elements. In a matter of hours, Hurricane Melissa stripped many of our loved ones of the very basics needed to survive.
As a result of this destruction, much of our family is now without shelter, food, clean water, clothing, or electricity. Nights are especially difficult, as many areas remain without power and rely on temporary lighting just to feel safe. What was once normal daily life has become a struggle for survival.
We are humbly asking for your support during this incredibly difficult time. Any donation—no matter the size—will go directly toward providing essential necessities such as food, water, clothing, and portable lighting for those affected. Most importantly, your generosity will help restore dignity, hope, and stability to families who have lost so much.
We are deeply grateful for every act of kindness, compassion, and prayer. Thank you for standing with our family and the people of Jamaica as they begin the long journey toward recovery.
